Each year, Givens Pursley hires one to three new associates. Most of these associates came from our summer associate program, but some are hired directly from Law School. Givens Pursley does not require young associates to spend endless hours in the library researching and writing legal memoranda. In fact, young associates who demonstrate the ability and spirit necessary are encouraged to take on significant responsibility at a very young experience level.

Givens Pursley typically hires two to four first and second year law students each summer to participate in the summer associate program. The summer associate program is our primary mechanism for hiring young attorneys and has been developed to provide each summer associate the opportunity to experience legal practice and life at our firm.
We expect summer associates to perform at a comparable level as first year associates, assuring you that your summer will provide a realistic view of life at Givens Pursley. To the extent possible, we include summer associates in practice group meetings, client conferences, court hearings, depositions and real estate closings. As evidence that we do not "make" work for summer associates, the vast majority of your time will be billed to our clients.
Each summer associate is assigned a mentor who is a partner or senior associate in the firm. Each mentor will assist in the coordination of an appropriate workload and will be a resource for any questions which may arise during the course of the summer. You will have an opportunity to interact with many of the firms lawyers and staff as you attend informal dinners at partner’s homes, the annual Givens Pursley summer picnic, and other outings designed especially for summer associates. Often summer associates also develop relationships with other attorneys who are more than willing to answer any questions and may provide a view of life at Givens Pursley from a long term perspective.
